Research, Monitorng & Evaluation
WIND’s focal area is in research among, for and with marginalized groups. Using a rights-based approach, the organization has carried out several baseline studies, needs assessments, evaluations and research in sub-Saharan Africa using both qualitative and quantitative methods. Most of WIND’s work is in disability were we consistently use persons with disabilities as consultants, researchers and research assistants.
WINDs training programmes are in mainstreaming disability in development. We conduct a three-day course on including persons with disabilities in development which covers understanding the concept of disability, rights of persons with disabilities, potential of persons with disabilities, disability culture and practical mechanism to include disability in organizations’ plans, human resource profile, budgets and in monitoring and evaluation. One-day sensitizations meetings can be organized such as those conducted with district leaders in Zambia and National technocrats in Malawi. Other training programmes include aspects of programme management of marginalized groups in development. For example during 2011, 2012 and 2013 WIND supported capacity building of Zambia’s CBR programme in Livingstone and Kazungulu districts. We trained trainers, district managers, supervisors and community volunteers. WIND has the capacity to conduct writing workshops for organizations that wish to use significant change stories as part of their M & E plan or articles that raise organisations’ profile in the public eye.
WIND has supported NGOs and Government departments develop strategic plans, review organizational structures and reposition themselves. Among the national plans for Ministry of Health the national Wheel chair Plan, the National Eye Health Plan and the Trachoma Action Plan. WIND has also help fledgling organizations position themselves for funding such as BAKA and Holistic Restoration.
WIND takes the administrative headaches off organizations by providing support such as office space with furniture, computers, filing space, photocopying etc. For these organizations we manage their tax obligations, recruitment, accounts, preparing contracts and staff in-service training so that the organizations can concentrate on their primary mandate. We provide administrative support for several clients including Incafex ranches, Happy transporters, Bwemwendo Investments, BAKA and Havila vegetable farm.
